VAT is set to rise to 20% in the UK today, hitting the young, the low-paid, the unemployed, the disabled and anyone who looks 'a bit foreign' disproportionately harder than the comfortably off, the affluent, the rich, and the obscenely wealthy. The 2.5% VAT increase is expected to royally shaft the poorest and most vulnerable paupers in the country, raising £13 billion by 2014. Meanwhile, loopholes protecting the super rich from paying tax at all in the UK remain protected, ensuring that the obscenely wealthy avoid paying £100 billion of tax every year. As Chancellor, George Osbourne could close these loopholes, but he is himself avoiding paying £1.6 million in tax. The Chancellor returned to the country this week from a luxury skiing holiday with his family at laughably expensive resort for the greedy and decadent, Klosters..
